Portland Vacation - Day 3 : Road Trip!

We woke up early on Saturday to head over to the coast. Here's a map of what we drove that day:

Our first destination was Newport, OR (Point B on map) where we went to the aquarium. It's a small aquarium but very cool. They had an exhibit about swamp creatures and they had an anaconda and an alligator.

They had all the other normal creatures of the sea.

Steven and I were sitting on a bench taking a break from it all when Steven spotted this little guy:

He was all by himself nearby the gift shop by the entrance of the aquarium. We were taking picture of him and a staff member happened to pass by. He asked in surprise if that was a crab just out there walking around by himself. He then picked him up and said, "well back to the touch tank with you. I wonder how long he's been out here!".  I feel bad that we gave away that little crabs cover and he was returned to his little crabby jail. He probably gets fed well though and he's safe from all those crabbers who would eat him! More on that later.

So we were done with the aquarium and needed to move on to our next destination. Unfortunately, we got back to Kelly's car and noticed that the tire was dead flat.

Luckily we had some strong men to save the day.

Unfortunately, the spare tire ended up being flatter than the one they had just removed. The original tire had a big screw in it so we couldn't just put that one back on. So we asked the aquarium staff for some help.

The facilities guy, Wayne, took John and the tire off to their shop to put some air in it and directed us to just on the other side of the bridge where there was a tire shop. The tire shop fixed and inspected all of Kelly's tires within half an hour and for FREE and we were back on the road and on our way to Tillamook!

At Tillamook we all made the mistake of ordering more than one scoop of ice cream. Jacob ordered 3 scoops!

I would say that each scoop was like double the amount of a normal scoop of ie cream. Luckily we had some time to let our stomachs settle as we walked through the Tillamook factory. It's like an episode of How It's Made!

We got free cheese samples at the end of the tour and I found out what "squeaky cheese" is. It's the curd part that squeaks against your teeth when you eat it. I loved it!

So with our Tillamook trip complete, it was time to head to our last destination of the day --
THE RIVER HOUSE!

I love this place. Kelly took me here the last time I visited and it's much better for visit in the Summer than in the Spring. It's in the middle of the Oregon wilderness. Everywhere you look there are trees. It's so green and beautiful and best of all there's a river.

As soon as we got there, the boys wanted to get in the cold river. They were just going to wade around a bit until the Slice accidentally slipped off the rock and went in fully. He saved the beer though which was the impressive part.

That's it for day 3. Kelly's dad made us some freshly caught salmon. We watched a movie and went to bed.
